Terrible, terrible. It is wrong to feel this numbed. Those young men and women who follow myself and Alastor keep dying, while we grow old. Older than old, I'm a living relic while these witches and wizards, just out of school and more jaded than even Alastor or the Minister herself, wander off into the fire with the full knowledge that they might not come back out alive from the fracas.

Oh, and how it angered me to see that traitor-healer, young and with a family, prosperous and caught up with a bunch of murderers. Angered me because he had all the luck and happiness in the world and he put it in jeopardy, and now I've promised him my protection. It is in my nature not to turn away someone in need, but this man has done nothing to merit my attention. Alastor needn't point it out to me, I knew the information he supplied wasn't enough to truly trust him. Worse is that now part of my attentions must be on this young man and his family, and not protecting those still left in the Order.

I feel ill, and my head always hurts. Always hurts. But I truly have nothing worth complaining about, for I have my health and my old age, and no loved ones to mourn.

Miss Hestia Jones,

I have reason to believe that Caradoc Dearborn is alive. Not alive and of sound mind, for his memories would have been wiped and this would account for his being lost this long, but I have been told that he does indeed live. Now I tell you this because you have been so determined in your search for Caradoc, and I hope to reassure you that it is not in vain. I trust you to understand why I will ask you not to tell the Dearborn family, as I cannot be entirely certain of anything until the man is actually found.

You are not alone in your search for Mr. Dearborn. I will continue to write to you with updates as they come to me. Unfortunately I cannot reveal the source of this information or much more than what I have included in this letter, but perhaps you'd like to meet with me in your free time?

Sincerely,
Albus Dumbledore

Recently I have discovered a delightful publication, a certain Modern Sassy Witch Stitch n' Bitch Magazine. I was visiting my healer for a regular appointment and happened to pick up a copy in the waiting room. While crocheting a bustier to heighten my bust line doesn't exactly appeal to my particular sense of fashion, I've found that their hat patterns are quite novel and clever. Would anyone fancy a knitted hat?

List of Things to Do:
- Hire three new additions to the staff for the autumn semester.
Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, and Muggle Studies.
- Talk to the Minister of Magic about the wards and protective charms he had expressed interest in in his last letter.
- Speak to Alastor.

Is everyone ready for their N.E.W.T.s and O.W.L.s? I should hope so, because they begin next week. Your schedules will be posted in your respective common rooms, please take notice and do not be late for your exams.

The last day of class will be June 15th, the end of term feast will take place on the 17th, and the Hogwarts Express leaves for London June 18th at 2 in the afternoon.
Magic is wonderful, isn't it?

Now before you ask, let me explain. Those of you who were present in the second floor corridor at the time of the rather large fight the other day will notice that your hands are now a delightful shade of bright pink. Any student who has hands the colour of bubble gum will report to the Great Hall tonight at eight o'clock, where there will be line writing and general "getting to the bottom of this" banter.

The spell is a tricky one to fix, so I encourage each and every one of you who cherishes the normal colouring of their hands to find their way to the Great Hall so that this can be settled. For those of you who skip this massive bonding time...well...I shall know and so shall the rest of the castle.

That is all.

I need any Professor, Prefect, or Head Girl or Head Boy, close to the second floor corridor on the east side to get down there immediately. There is a situation that needs to be quelled.

((This post is going to change as the situation starts to get out of hand.
Is it any wonder I'm tired?

I always maintained that these students were cleverer than everyone takes them for, but I suppose there is a downside to always being right about this sort of thing.

In a four year gap <s>To</s> Voldemort went from the sort of spells I expected him to know - mostly contentiously European black arts and standard Celtic and Anglo-Saxon hexes, to using ancient magic that I never even thought could still possibly exist. Not only is he reaping lives, he's feeding off of each and every one of their deaths. This is not only startling, but terrifying.

But what to do?

Of course this is always the question I'm left pondering. One thing is clear, we must shift our focus and find Voldemort. He must be stopped at all costs.

I fear he's already surpassed what Grindlewald accomplished.

Alastor,

One of our own, Benjamin Fenwick, has discovered something while perusing the Ministry's files. It seems that our friend Voldemort did a little traveling and has been incorporating some very dangerous magic into his already broad knowledge. Apparently he's using a spell from Central America - something in which drains an opponent of his or hers energy after they have been killed.

The Ministry's focus must shift, Alastor. Instead of trying to keep him at bay, they must find him and stop him. We must find him and stop him.

We'll talk more later,

Albus

Hello all.

I don't know if I've said something to all of you about our growing numbers within our ranks. To those who haven't heard, Gideon and Fabian Prewett have agreed to join us. To Gideon and Fabian, I cannot write a list of those you're joining, I will trust them to make themselves known to you.

Recently Alastor Moody and myself have asked certain members favours. Though it pains me to admit it, I believe all of you will be asked to contribute one way or another, fairly shortly at that. Moody and myself have reason to believe a man who calls himself Lord Voldemort is behind many of the recent murders and mob gatherings, and though we cannot not be completely sure, we suspect that the Ministry of Magic may be infiltrated by those who follow Voldemort. The man is an anti-Muggle extremist, and a powerful wizard and speaker at that.

More information shall be given to you regarding him when we have a meeting, which I am having here at the castle before Christmas holiday. I will let you know when the exact date is.

I want all of you to keep your eyes particularly wide and aware from now on. If the Ministry is not safe, then our school most certainly isn't. Keep in touch with one another, keep close.

A.D.

P.S. I believe all of you know Emmeline Vance. I will be asking her to join our Order. If she accepts, I'll send out an owl. If not, you are all to keep quiet and not mention The Order with respect to her wishes, whatever they be.

Miss Vance,

I would like to speak with you. Before you begin to panic, no, it is not regarding yourself being in any sort of trouble. When you get the chance I'm available any time in the morning before breakfast. The password is "licorice wands", when you get the chance.

Headmaster Dumbledore

Please, leave this to me.
Important Notice

This is the long and the short of it.

The long is due to circumstances in the outside world I cannot allow anyone to enter or leave this castle for any reason whatsoever, including Care of Magical Creatures or Herbology classes. If a student needs to leave they need to seek permission with their Head of House and then myself, as well as have their parent/guardian come to Hogwarts to pick them up personally.

The short of it is we're all under lock down.

Needless to say this weekend's trip to Hogsmeade, as well as all other further trips, are canceled.

Any student caught on the grounds or in Hogsmeade will be severely punished, and I mean this. There will be no leniency, we cannot afford to gamble your safety.

Curfew will begin immediately after dinner. All those caught out of their respective common areas after curfew will be given a series of detention.

Defensive charms will be taught immediately in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Charms. There will be a letter sent home to all those with wizarding parents, alerting them to the lock down and telling them how to properly protect their home. All Muggleborn students will have members of this staff come to their homes to do the charms for them.

That is all.

You wished to speak with me? Drop by my office before dinner if you still want to have a chat.

Abime,

Dr. Artemus Wright has gone missing.

Albus

Announcement

This year our Halloween celebration will be held in the Great Hall, in the form of a school-wide costume extravaganza. It shall begin at seven in the evening of the 31st. There is no theme, just try not to be vile or inappropriate. Professors and the Head Boy and Girl can and will hand out detentions if need be.

Should prove to be interesting, I hope everyone attends. Professors McGongall and Slughorn are currently trying to find a band to play the event. I expect you all to at least show up so that their efforts are not in vain.

Abime, we've not had a chat in months! When you feel up to it, I would like to take you for a cup of tea (or coffee, as I know which you tend to opt for) in Hogsmeade.

*letters burn ten minutes after the seal is broken.*

Mr. Gideon Prewett will be joining our society. Please, should he have any questions do help him.

We shall all meet together soon, in October. I will contact you all again.

I hope you all had a productive summer.

Unforgivables. Again. In my school. It's a wonder I'm headmaster here still and not some puppet from the Ministry. More join the Order and yet the more I prepare for what may lie ahead the more fragile I feel my whole operation is. Minerva feels the change in the world so acutely that I find myself worrying for her when I should not, as she usually proves herself stronger than I.

There are so many new faces here at the school, it's hard to know who I can trust and who I cannot. I am torn with what I should do with poor Abime. He is not well, anyone can see. Am I asking him too much too soon? And Filius, always the cheery one. I feel once times change for the worst he'll lose his sympathetic edge or crack under the strain. My Head Girl has clearly been hexed and it's only been a week.

My school is falling apart and the mortar that has been holding it together thus far is starting to crumble. I cannot eat, I cannot sleep. I write, write, write letters in hopes of keeping my school together for just one more year, just one more.

October will prove to be an interesting month. I believe it's high time that the younger members of the Order meet the rest of the family.

Our entire Order must meet. I was thinking sometime in October.

Welcome, welcome students. As expected some major rules have already been broken. Those who are guilty know who they are and I hope they feel the sting of my disapproval and the paranoia that comes from knowing that they are watched very closely.

In other news, under Ministry Instruction, Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry will be offering a sexual education class. Professors Colbear and Stewart have already volunteered, isn't that correct gentlemen? Should our resident healers want to step in they are more than welcome, as well as any other Professor feeling 'up to the job'.

Professor Slughorn has graciously supplied his potions classroom to play host to this class. All third through seventh years wishing to attend the course may sign up outside his classroom. It will be held next Friday afternoon, three pm sharp. Should demand outstrip the resources of a single class, there shall be repeat the following Friday.

That is all.

Has it been a year already?

A loud and happy welcome to all our new students, and a cheer to all our older and wiser students returning to the castle!

As most of you may have known our Head Boy for the year shall be James Potter, while our Head Girl shall be Lily Evans, both of Gryffindor House. A congratulations is in order for the two.

I expect all of you to be on your best behavior at the welcoming feast tomorrow, which begins eight o'clock sharp (right after the sorting). Your schedules for the semester should have already been owled to you, but should your owl have not arrived which does tend to happen when you trust your post to live animals, you can pick up a copy with your head of house.

As always, any student caught out of bed after curfew shall be given a detention, and the Dark Forest is strictly forbidden. Though I'm sure you all knew that after being reminded so many times.

We have a lot of new faces in the castle this year. Most of our staff is fresh-faced and cheery-eyed, I expect everyone to make a good impression when they meet them tonight. This means of course our dear caretaker, Argus Filch, will be on the lookout for dungbombs and other sorts of illegal apparel when you arrive.

Busy work.

There are three of you:
Longbottom
Meadowes
Shacklebolt

Now that you know each other, feel free to talk about it amongst each other. Please be careful, and use that charm I gave you with all written communication.

This letter will be short, but to the point. Enclosed in those packages are bottles containing a polyjuice potion that will last for three hours - no longer. Attached to each bottle is a description, small background, and picture of who you shall be transforming into.

I've heard this meeting will begin at eight o'clock somewhere in Knockturn Alley, this Saturday night. The first step is to find it. Though I'm not really sure where, I suspect that dingy pub at the very end of the street would be ideal for a "secret" meeting of this kind.

All I ask you to do is sneak into this gathering, listen intently to everything said, say very little, then leave before the potion runs out. It is vital you remember your potion does not last a full night! Stay together - do not separate, and stay in character.

The next day I shall expect to see you at Mr. Longbottom's home where we shall talk about what you heard and saw.

Please owl me with any questions.

Albus Dumbledore

There has been talk, Abime, are you not returning back to Hogwarts this autumn? If this is the case I must implore, no, beg you to come back! You have no idea how difficult it is to find an experienced Arithmancy teacher - I'll have to find a substitute and then the interviewing process...it can be a nightmare.

Then again, if you feel you need the time away from the castle I can hardly blame you. Just please consider my offer.

Albus

Hello incoming students! Your school letter and lists have been sent out, expect them soon.

I highly doubt you have forgotten the Order and the terms I have asked you to join under. In a week there will be a chance for you to find out first hand what I really want the Order of the Phoenix to become, and what it was actually formed for. Again, you do not have to do what I ask of you. It's your decision.

On Saturday there is to be a gathering of Pureblooded youths in Knockturn Alley. I have a feeling the meeting is more sinister than it has been made out to be. What I want you to do is infiltrate that meeting - sit in and just listen. Nothing more than that. A small dose of polyjuice potion will be given to you, it'll last three hours before it wears off. That should be enough time to sneak into the gathering and find out what's really going on behind closed doors.

If you agree to go, consider this the first assignment for the Order. If you do not, my feelings will not be hurt. Just be sure of your decision. If you agree, send me back an owl. I'll send you back more detailed plans, as well as the bottle of polyjuice. After I expect you report to me, but we'll talk more on the matter later.

Albus Dumbledore

Alastor,

It has been a while, I apologise. I've been terribly busy with family issues, I won't bore you with the details. I would ask how you fare but I know your answer, "Albus skip the pleasantries and just get down to business", and I will. I hear the Ministry's been in an uproar as of late - from startling murders mixed in with the almost weekly riots I'm sure. Have you seen the tags left in the sky by an unnamed group? The skull and snake? More reports of someone named Voldemort, underground secret meetings, the recent string of political movers and shakers in the Wizarding world suddenly up and leaving their positions....

It's time to get the younger members of our Order active, don't you agree? I've been thinking that these "secret" meetings need to be infiltrated- by our youth nonetheless. A source tells me that there is to a be a meeting geared towards Pureblooded Wizards and Witches only in a corner of Knockturn Alley this Saturday. Wouldn't this be a good occasion to send a few of our number out to see what we're up against?

Albus

Married life is good.

As though I could find words to express the thoughts in my head.

--
Filius, ignore everything you've heard coming from the Ministry. No, Abime is not fine. Livia is dead and he is in an Italian hospital. I'm having him transferred to St. Mungos. From there, from there who can say? Alastor's been called to speak with him. You and I both know he didn't kill Livia, it was not Abime Delame who committed this act.

More later, friend. You'll know what I know.

--
Alastor, when Abime Delame arrives in St. Mungos there are to be no Ministry Officials even twenty feet near him until I consent, is that clear? The man is disturbed and has just gone through something so tragic it has shaken him loose, I trust you and only you to interview him for the Ministry when the time comes.

--
My dear friends,

The time has come to call in that favour you owe me. I need you to relocate to France, trouble is stirring to our south and I need a pair of eyes and ears to watch out down there for me. No doubt by now you have heard of what has happened to a couple of professors of mine; I am positive it was his work. I'll send you more instruction once you arrive. I expect that you'll not be back for quite a while, your daughter Emmeline can finish out her schooling at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. I'll write a recommendation for her when the time comes.

More to come when I'm not so busy, I assure you.

Albus

--
Professor Delame has been taken to St. Mungos. He's resting at the moment, though at some point he'll speak to Alastor Moody, but only when he's well. Aside from all that, I want to thank you for everything that you've done. You will be the first person he sees when he's able to have visitors, I can assure you of that.

Headmaster Dumbledore
Good luck Fifth and Seventh years! I have no doubt you'll all do well. In case anyone is confused on where they're supposed to be for their O.W.L.s or N.E.W.T.s, see your Head of House.

Filius, what's the etiquette on wedding robes? Do I have to buy a new set of dress robes? Do I go dressier? What colour should I wear? Help, please! I haven't been to a wedding in years, has the style changed much? Two weddings in one month, including my own...and to think I believed this was going to be a calm summer holiday.

Announcements

Alastor,

Your visit would be most appreciated. There was another protest turned riot last night. Oh, but I am tired. So tired. The Longbottom murders couldn’t have been more deliberate or devious. All ready I hear people having trouble speak his name, Voldemort. It is just like Grindlewald, just like him.

We need to discuss matters within the Order. Have your Aurors been patrolling as I have requested? Our eyes must remain open.

Albus

Students, here are the schedules for the final exams. I’m sure you’re all studying very hard and will do well. Classroom assignments and times of exams will be posted outside your Head of House’s office.

May 30th - All History of Magic exams
May 31st - All Defense Against the Dark Arts exams
June 1st - All Potions exams - afternoon exams for all those taking Divination
June 2nd - All Transfiguration exams - afternoon exams for all those taking Muggle Studies
June 5th - All Charms exams - afternoon exams for all those taking Arithmancy
June 6th - All Herbology exams - afternoon exams for all those taking Ancient Runes
June 7th - All Astronomy exams - afternoon exams for all those taking Care of Magical Creatures

June 8th and 9th - O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. exams to be taken by fifth and seventh years, respectively.

Friday, June 16th will be the final day of classes. All those who are still missing outstanding work (especially the Seventh years) should do best to meet with their professors and get that missing work in before this last day of term.

Sunday, June 18th - The end of term feast and celebration - at which time the House Cup winner will be announced.
Monday, June 19th - The Hogwarts express leaves for London at noon.

((I'll probably go back and add and rework, but this is what I've got so far. Supposedly all the end of term exams start the first week of June so I went with that.))

"fawkes"

I didn't say anything on the subject, but I was absolutely sickened to learn of the slaying of cats. The first thing that popped into my head was "Minerva!" so that didn't help matters. Of course should she have been one of the many targets no doubt the students responsible would have gotten a good beating. I am just so glad that she has not heard about this. One can just imagine her reaction. What brutal, terrible, awful children. They deserve every detention they get and then some.

I spoke with Moody yesterday. He says all but four of the Aurors have expressed their wishes to join the Order. So far that's fourteen people from the Ministry, six other outside sources, two ghosts, and six of my students.

I still have not told Minerva.

Am I just a terrible person for not telling her or would keeping her in the dark be regarded as an act of kindness?

Alastor,

I expect the meeting with the Aurors went well, if not please tell me the faults. I am currently in the midst of finding a location for our Order; it will not be the school as you have insisted. Do well to remember I want no danger to fall to my students.

You asked about six students I invited into the Order. Some have expressed their desire to join, some have not. I am still letting them think over the choice as you and I both realize it is momentous. And no, I will not have them do Order work...not the same work as I would have the Aurors do. Not until they graduate if, heaven forbid, the war lasts that long.

Any word get on the whereabouts of Voldemort? The Aurors have been tracking him, yes? There was a slaying in Germany last weekend, I hope that isn't connected.

Albus

PS Minerva sends her regards.

Students,

I want to first clarify that this letter is not asking you to make up your minds right away. You still have all the time you need to come to a decision. The purpose of the letter is to make clear the duties I would ask of you, as well inform you of who else you can expect to be in this Order.

First know this: The Order is not entirely treasonous. Treason is a very harsh word, do not be so quick as to label it as this. When a government does little to nothing to stop a threat to their people then there is little choice but for the people to take matters into their own hands. A fact - The Ministry is bumbling, yes. But not all workers of the Ministry are incompetent. Those people have been asked to join the Order, and so far all of those people have accepted. The Aurors, for example.

You are all still so young, I am not asking that when you join you'll immediately be sent out with the Aurors. No, that's not the reason why I chose to confide in all of you. From time to time I may ask you to help out, that is a given. The truth is, while I play a part in this horrible chain of events, it shall be all of you that must live with it. I am an old man, I may not last long enough to see the end of Voldemort's reign. You, the six of you, with your incredible wit and knowledge and skills, you will be ones forced to see this thing through to the end. It's a harsh reality that I want you to think about.

And what if this Order is found out by the Ministry? Then I take the blame, wholly.

Headmaster Dumbledore
