Character's Name: Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Character's Gender: Male
Character's Appearance: Dumbledore is the kind of guy who stands out in a crowd, and not just because he’s about 130 years old and sucking on a handful of lemon drops. In fact one look at him and the words “eccentric wizard” should come to mind. His long hair has gone completely from auburn to silver in his old age, and this includes his waist-length beard and matching mustache. His eyes are clear-blue (and usually reflect his true emotions, often hidden to those around him) and framed by a pair of half moon spectacles balanced on top of a long and crooked nose. He wears sweeping (usually brightly colored) robes and a pair of high-heeled buckled boots, but should Albus Dumbledore feel like wearing a stuffed vulture hat embarrassment will not hinder him.
Character's History: Not much is known about Albus Dumbledore’s family other than he has a brother named Aberforth who has a certain preoccupation with goats (and later in his life will also bartend at the Hogs Head in Hogsmeade) that once got him in trouble. However whereas Dumbledore’s personal life is very secretive, his Wizarding career is quite the opposite.
First attending Hogwarts sometime in the 1850’s, Dumbledore was sorted in the Gryffindor house and from there continually impressed both students and teachers. It is said that he was mostly self taught and continually aided by extremely talented professors. His NEWT scores were particularly impressive in charms and transfiguration.
After Hogwarts the years in between are somewhat of a mystery. We do know that sometime during the 1940’s he was the transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, and that he encountered star pupil Tom Riddle many times and was even the man who first brought to the attention of the future Dark Lord that he was a wizard. Before he became Headmaster he also witnessed the reopening of the Chamber of Secrets and the murder of a young girl, and convinced his coworkers to allow Rubeus Hagrid to remain at Hogwarts and become gamekeeper.
One of his most important achievements was the defeat of the Dark Wizard Grindelwald in 1945, however if asked he would probably say that becoming Headmaster of Hogwarts ten years later was his proudest moment to date.
Albus Dumbledore is also famed for his discovery of the twelve uses for Dragon’s blood and his work with Nicholas Famel, the famous alchemist. He also hold the titles of Order of Merlin, First Class, and Grand Sorcerer; Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards; and Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.
Character's Personality: There are many sides to Albus Dumbledore. The hero, the wise old man, the eccentric wizard, the trust worthy friend, the mentor; the list goes on.
Dumbledore is first and foremost a guardian over his students at Hogwarts. Never failing to see the good in people, he is steadfast friend and when he truly places his trust in you he rarely ever wavers in his opinion. Although at first his students may find him somewhat strange or even absurd, his wisdom and confidence in his staff and pupils usually gains their approval in the end (be it saving students from a detention or shooting fireworks out of the tip of his wand at the end of a stirring quidditch match). While he may seem like an unusual old man, Dumbledore is much more knowledgeable than most people credit him for.
Though old he certainly is not frail or weak and only when his emotions overtake him does his age truly show. As quirky as Albus is, he realizes certain truths before most people and due to his immense reputation is almost always a leader in whatever cause he’s fighting for. Although with his students he may be a little bit cryptic, he never fails to stand up for what he believes in and usually gives the Ministry a good ‘talking to’ if he feels they’re not towing the line. However this is usually rare as Dumbledore feels that his duty is to Hogwarts and the safety of his students first and would rather concentrate his attention on them and not the Ministry.
Caring, brilliant, and a little bit nuts, Dumbledore loves a rousing chorus of the school song, tenpin bowling, chamber music, knitting patterns, the occasional Muggle or Wizard candy, and longs for warm comfortable socks.
